In short: FormZilla stores everything you enter — your profile, generated documents and application history — locally in your browser. We do not operate servers that receive your data, we do not track you, and we never sell or share your information. The only time any data leaves your device is if you choose to add your own AI API key, in which case the text needed to generate a CV or cover letter is sent to the AI provider you selected.
1. Who this applies to
This policy covers the FormZilla browser extension (“the Extension”, “we”, “our”). By installing and using the Extension you agree to this policy.
2. What data the Extension handles
You may choose to enter and save the following in the Extension. It is stored on your device using the browser’s storage.local API and is only ever read by the Extension on your machine:
Profile information — name, email, phone, address, links (LinkedIn/GitHub/portfolio), gender/pronouns, work experience, education, skills, projects and custom fields you add.
Documents — a CV/résumé file you upload, a cover letter you write, and any CV/cover letters the Extension generates for you.
Application history — job titles, companies, page URLs and the status you assign (e.g. Applied, Interview).
Settings — your preferences and, if you are the administrator, an AI API key.
A local account (optional) — if you create an account, your email and name are stored locally and your password is stored only as a salted cryptographic hash. This is an on-device login to gate features; it is not an account on any server.
3. How the Extension uses page content
To do its job, the Extension reads the content of pages you are actively using so it can detect forms and fill them:
It inspects form fields (labels, names, placeholders) to decide what to fill, and — on job pages — reads the visible job posting to tailor documents.
This processing happens locally in your browser. Page content is not sent to us or stored beyond what you explicitly save (e.g. a scraped job you generate documents for).
The Extension fills forms but never submits them, and it never solves or bypasses CAPTCHAs.
4. Data we collect: none
We do not collect, transmit, or store your data on any server we control. Specifically, FormZilla contains:
No analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking.
No advertising or advertising identifiers.
No sale or sharing of personal information with third parties.
No remote code — all logic ships inside the Extension package.
5. Optional AI features and third parties
The Extension can generate a tailored CV and cover letter. This feature is off unless an AI API key is configured. When it is enabled and you request generation (or an AI-assisted form fill), the Extension sends the relevant text — your profile details and the job description — directly from your browser to the AI provider endpoint you configured (for example, an OpenAI-compatible API). That request is governed by the privacy policy and terms of the provider you chose. We are not an intermediary and do not receive a copy of that data. Without a key, the Extension uses built-in offline templates and sends nothing.
6. Permissions and why we need them
storage
To save your profile, documents, history and settings locally on your device.
activeTab, scripting, tabs
To detect and fill the form on the tab you are using, and to show the current page’s status in the popup.
host permissions (all sites)
Forms exist on any website, so the Extension needs to run on the pages you visit to offer autofill. It only acts when you open the popup or click Auto-Fill, and it does not monitor your browsing.
7. Data retention and control
Your data stays on your device until you remove it. You are fully in control:
Export your data as a JSON file (Settings → Data). Exports never include your API key.
Delete individual documents or history entries, or use Reset all data to erase everything.
Uninstalling the Extension removes its local storage.
8. Children
FormZilla is intended for users who are old enough to work and apply for jobs, and is not directed at children under 13.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, note the change in the Extension’s listing.
